Data can be collected from many digital sources and in many types and formats. CALDISS is happy to help you move on with your work; this may involve acquisition or clean-up of data to make it ready for analysis.

Depending on your challenge, CALDISS can provide a dataset in the format you need and/or a program/script that solves your specific challenge. Our competences include data mining, text mining, web scraping, data processing etc., and we work in R, Python, Stata and NVivo.

• Downloading twitter data from specific twitter profiles
• Downloading tabular data from a website
• Downloading files and text data from a website
• Using databases and APIs
• Developing a program to monitor website front pages
• Developing a program to extract key information from pdf documents
• Developing a program/script to combine data (addresses to coordinates)
• Developing a program/script to extract specific information from across datasets

While data challenges are often unique, they do not necessarily call for unique solutions. So do not hesitate to contact us, as we may have faced a challenge similar to yours in the past.

Send an email to caldiss@adm.aau.dk describing your challenge. The more information you give us, the better we can help you find a solution.

We will get back to you within two to three business days.

If we have an immediate solution to your challenge, we will respond with a description of this and a time estimate of how long it will take to prepare the solution.

If we do not see an immediate solution to your challenge, or we need some more details, we will respond with a suggestion to meet and discuss it further.

We can usually make a delivery of some kind (in the form of datasets, programs, scripts etc.) within two to four weeks depending on other ongoing tasks (a deadline to be agreed).

A delivery does not always mean a solution. What we deliver is always our immediate proposal as to how the challenge may be solved using the tools and instruments that we know of at the time. We work iteratively and are happy to go back to the drawing board if the delivery does not solve the problem sufficiently.

A delivery can also simply be an explanation and description of a particular tool or technique.

For more complicated challenges and inquiries where solutions, options or expected results are unclear to both you and us, we are happy to extend our project collaboration for a longer period in order to find a solution. Read more about collaboration opportunaies with CALDISS here.

Co-authorship

The possibility of co-authorship will be discussed in relation to the size of the delivery and contribution to a specific publication.

Open science

As a general rule, all codes[KP1]  and documentation are made publicly available via CALDISS' GitHub.

Codes and programs can generally be used freely in other projects by other researchers, unless otherwise agreed.
